Coraline & the Cat

Image
an animated family film

Bast (Ubasti, Bastet)- depicted enthroned as the cat-headed incarnation of Isis (lion headed). It was not until about 1000 BC that she was represented with a cat's head.

Bast was the daughter of Isis and Osiris, the twin sister of Horus. Greeks identified her as Artemis Romans as Diana.
Feast of Sekhmet and Bast = Halloween

Bastet -> means(female) of the ointment jar:
Bast gradually became regarded as the goddess of perfumes, earning the title perfumed protector. In connection with this, when Anubis became the god of embalming, Bast, as goddess of ointment, came to be regarded as his wife. The association of Bastet as mother of Anubis:

Bast also represents the Maiden aspect of the Triple Goddess. and possessor of his "eye" the sacred and magickal "utchat"

Bastet is mentioned in the Book of the Dead where she destroyed the bodies of the deceased with her 'royal flame' if they failed any of the tests for entry to the underworld.

Anubis & Bast are both connected as the protector/guardian of souls through the underworld (Duat- land of the dead)

Back to the movie Coraline:

-who has a black cat emerging from 'the gateway' letter "I" on the movie poster & the slogan "be Careful what you wish for" as the little girl and the black cat peer through the doorway to the underworld.
A young girl (Fanning) walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when her adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother [Hatcher]) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home – and save her family.
