There is a fine line between fiction and fact....

The book "The Zombie Survial Guide"-Max brooks fell on my desk a few days go. This book is fiction, but u can help but wonder how much fact was included.

What is a Zombie?
By definition:

1-Animated corpse that feeds off human flesh. Zombies such as ones in I'm Legend, Night of the living dead, Resident evil who become animated due to a viral infection....as in the book the -solanum virus - is a fictional zombie virus invented by writer Max Brooks (son of Mel Brooks, who was the director of Space Balls) Melvin Kaminsky- The name cames from kamien - which means stone; Zombie Attack at Hierakonpolis

2-Vodou spell that raises the dead using supernatural forces

A zombie is a reanimated human corpse. Stories of zombies originated in the Afro-Caribbean spiritual belief system of Vodou, which told of the people being controlled as workers by a powerful sorcerer. Wiki

A zombi astral is when a human soul is captured by a bokor (Voodoo sorcerer) & used to enhance his powers.

3- Vodou snake god Zombie or Zombi is also another name for the snake god Damballah Wedoof, Niger-Congo orgin; it is akin to the kongo word "nzambi" which means God.

He is both a member of the Rada family and a root, or racine Loa. He is considered the father of all the rest of the loa and, along with his wife/companion Ayida Wedo, to be the Loa of creation. he is also married to Erzulie Freda. -wiki

The Loa (Lwa or L'wha)are the spirits- each distinct beings with their own personal likes and dislikes & they arerefered to as the Mysteres & the invisibles. Ayida-Weddo his wife is known as the Rainbow Serpent, a loa of fertility.

Ancestors in Dahomey and their descendants in Haiti referred to it as Damballah and Aida Wedo, two serpents intertwined in a loving embrace so powerful that it holds the Universe together.

Damballa -associated with Saint Patrick, the saint who protects from serpents; he is also synchronized with Moses.

Real Virus Vrs Fantasy

Wade Davis, a Harvard ethnobotanist, presented a pharmacological case for zombies in two books, The Serpent and the Rainbow (1985) and Passage of Darkness: The Ethnobiology of the Haitian Zombie (1988). Davis traveled to Haiti in 1982 and, as a result of his investigations, claimed that a living person can be turned into a zombie by two special powders being entered into the blood stream (usually via a wound). The first, coup de poudre (French: 'powder strike'), includes tetrodotoxin (TTX), the poison found in the pufferfish. The second powder is composed of dissociatives such as datura. Together, these powders were said to induce a death-like state in which the victim's will would be entirely subject to that of the bokor. -wiki

Zombies in History can be traced back to the beginning of time. The Epic of Gilgamesh of ancient Sumer mentions zombies.

Ishtar, in the fury of vengeance says:
Father give me the Bull of Heaven,

I will smash the doorposts, and leave the doors flat down,

The "draugr" of medieval Norse mythology were also believed to be the corpses of warriors returned from the dead to attack the living

Greek God named Asklepios- could awake the dead.

5 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Apocalypse Could Actually Happen

Jack Parsons -"moonchild" or Gulum (an animated being created entirely from inanimate matter)

Neighbors and some who had attended various events at Parsons' home reported that he was engaged in immoral actions and black magic.

The plan was to to impregnate a girl with the soul of an ethereal being. Using Babalon Workings Parsons channeled a preternatural entity, and it is said he wrote Liber 49 of Crowley's Book of Law.

The elemental mater was the first stage of Babalon invoking. A moonchild in this context is best described as an Thelemic messiah a magic homonculus monster to bring great change for the Aeon of Horus. L.R.Hubbard was said to be the "scribe" during the rituals. The rituals ran From Jan. 4th. to 18th. 1946 - to call on the perfect mate.

The woman was Marjorie Cameron, the scarlet woman. The "incarnate" & "birthing" rituals started March 1 of the same year and went for 3 days. Parson's wrote on the 4th day: "Babalon is incarnate upon the earth today awaiting the proper hour of her manifestation."

As the story goes, Marjorie confessed the unborn fetus or Golum was taken from her womb-the breath of life would be added by a flameless fire. Parsons is said to put the fetus in an alumimiun pod, and bombarded it with the first atomic bomb. ---> see this video.
